For more than a decade, Omexom Australia’s Urban Lighting team has been delivering a smarter, more sustainable approach to public lighting upgrades through its innovative LED conversion program.
Rather than replacing entire lanterns when upgrading outlawed mercury vapour and high-pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights, the team developed a method to retrofit existing fittings with modern LED technology. By retaining much of the existing infrastructure, upgrades can often be completed in a single visit, reducing waste, minimising disruption and improving efficiency.
Since 2015, the team has converted more than 7,400 streetlights across Victoria, delivering upgrades in local communities as well as landmark locations including the MCG precinct and Flagstaff Gardens.
